The MoD aims to accelerate the introduction of a new Medium Range Precision Strike capability.
The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) is seeking a new beyond visual line of sight Medium Range Precision Strike (MRPS) system for deployed forces, according to a request for information (RFI) published on 10 April.
The RFI is part of the MoD’s early market engagement efforts for an MRPS, seeking to lay the groundwork for what could be a GBP120 million contract. The MoD had not replied to DSEI’s request for comment on the proposed number of MRPS systems being considered at the time of publication.
While not mentioned in the RFI, the contract is expected to be announced in 2027 with an in-service delivery date of 2028, the UK’s Minister for Defence Procurement, Maria Eagle, previously said during a parliamentary question on 25 March.
The RFI did, however, detail that the deadline for submitting submissions of interest is 9 May.
Citing what it calls “key assumptions” regarding what an MRPS solution needs to include, the MoD says that it must be capable of being launched from land and sea and be repairable in case of electronic warfare disruption.
Furthermore, the system “must have a battery or warhead that is removable”, be capable of loitering for 45 minutes, and continue to be precise at a range of over 80km.
“All-weather” and day and night operability are also essential.
Underscoring the urgency of the requirement, Eagle stated during the parliamentary questions that “stakeholders across defence are... working to accelerate” the contract and in-service timelines. The question – regarding timelines – was posed by her predecessor, Conservative MP James Cartlidge.
Those seeking to answer the RFI will need to testify as to how they can “iterate [their solutions] at pace and scale”, and how it will “achieve targeting and strike within GNSS denied environments”, according to the document.
Applicants can find more information about the RFI on the MoD’s tendering platform.
